Calculate Head Pressure

CALCULATE HEAD PRESSURE (HP)is simply the measure of obstructions to and from the waterfall-pond pump which will limit the total amount of flow.

For example if you are pumping water 4 feet in elevation to the top of a Garden Waterfall, that will be a total dynamic HP or TDH of 4 feet. This is not taking into account the depth that the water is pumped from nor the amount of L's in the plumbing.

Every foot of elevation = 1 foot of HP and every L or turn in the plumbing = 1 foot of HP as well.

As far as horizontal distance goes it is not of huge concern, But if the water is traveling a great distance add 1 foot of HP for every 20 feet of horizontal distance.

Be sure to look at available flow charts or 'power curves' when sizing any water pump. One water pump to the next will vary wildly in actual water pumped at any given water HP.
